Have a wonderful Shabbos!

 Dvar Torah

One of the korbanos discussed in this week’s parsha is the קרבן תודה. We know that   קדשי קדשיםand קדשים קלים have different halachos. For example, קדשי קדשים can only be eaten the day the korban was brought and the following night, whereas קדשים קלים can be eaten the following day as well. The קרבן תודה, however, is unique. Even though a תודה is regarded as a שלמים, which is קדשים קלים, it still can only be eaten the day the korban was brought and the following night. Why is that? Moreover, 40 loaves are brought along with the korban, and they too must be eaten within a day and the following night. What is different about the קרבן תודה? What is the significance of the loaves, and why does it have halachos that pertain to קדשי קדשים, when it is in fact a שלמים, which is קדשים קלים?

Zukt the Seforno, the many loaves are brought to be מתפרסם את הנס. R’ Chaim Mintz elaborates that it is not only the loaves that brings a פרסום הנס, but also the fact that the korban can only be eaten in a shorter time frame. In other words, if the loaves and the korban were able to be eaten over two days, the בעל הקרבן could invite the same group of people on two separate days to eat. Since a תודה can only be eaten over a period of a day and the following night, the בעל הקרבן must invite many people to eat the large quantity of food to ensure the korban doesn’t become נותר. The guests at the meal will then ask what this seudah is for, and the בעל הנס will inform them of the chesed Hashem did for him. This will in turn lead others to increase their level of אהבת השם, as well as their אמונה in Hashem.

A similar idea is mentioned in Rashi by קריעת ים סוף. Rashi explains the lashon of “אנוהו” to mean “נוי.” Accordingly, in אז ישיר, כלל ישראל was saying they will tell over the beauty (“נוי”) and wonders of Hashem to rest of the world.

We see from here an important lesson. When a נס happens to someone, the beneficiary should tell others about the נס so that they too will come to a הכרה that everything is from Hashem, and that will strengthen their אמונה in Hashem as well.
May we all increase our אמונה in Hashem by being מכיר all of the נסים He does for us and for all of כלל ישראל all the time!

Good Shabbos,
